About Norman and the University of Oklahoma

Norman, Oklahoma is a city rich with beauty, activity, culture and excitement.  We are Oklahoma’s third largest city and voted the sixth best place to live by Money Magazine.  Whether you are here on vacation or business, you will find everything you need.  Norman is not only home to The University of Oklahoma, but critically acclaimed performing arts, Smithsonian-rivaling museums, colorful art galleries filled with both local and renowned artists, nationally recognized events, fabulous restaurants and an exciting nightlife.

Established 17 years before Oklahoma statehood, the university has a rich history of academic and athletic excellence.  Visitors will marvel at the breath-taking blend of historical buildings with exquisitely manicured lawns, Oklahoma art and stunning architecture.  Tour the North Oval, South Oval, Oklahoma Memorial Union, The Western History Collections and the magnificent Bizzell Memorial Library.

Oklahoma’s only comprehensive music school is at the University of Oklahoma.  The School of Music offers degrees at the bachelors, masters and doctoral levels in all areas of music performance, composition, education, history and theory.  Costs are moderate, and scholarships are available.  For students who demonstrate sufficient musical ability to qualify, the following ensembles are available:  the University Symphony Orchestra, Opera, Collegium Musicum, Accademia Filarmonica, Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, New Century Ensemble, Woodwind Chamber Music, Sooner Bassooners, and OU Oboes.  The large ensembles are open to undergraduate and graduate music majors and non-music majors by audition each semester.  The school presents 250 performances each year.
